In this tale, Nathaniel Hawthorne depicts a 17th century Puritan attempting to find justification for the existence of Satan as Brown sets off on a radical journey through the woods. This concept holds true in Nathaniel Hawthorne’s short story “Young Goodman Brown”. ![]() Most every word in a story has a larger purpose than its initial meaning.
